On 17 July 2025 the German Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) decided to include liposuction for lipedema in the benefits catalogue of the statutory health insurance – for stages I, II and III and for legs as well as arms. Since 1 January 2026 the operation is therefore in principle covered by German statutory health insurance. Coverage is tied to medical requirements that your insurer verifies. As lipedema is a diagnosis of exclusion and the symptoms can also occur with venous insufficiency or lipohypertrophy, the following criteria apply, among others:
This regulation applies to people with German statutory health insurance. For privately insured patients the individual tariff decides; for patients from abroad, the insurance of their home country.
We are highly specialized in the treatment of lipedema. Our service goes far beyond a simple liposuction covered by insurance. We address border zones, remove significantly larger fat volumes per session to reduce downtime, and perform simultaneous skin tightening with state‑of‑the‑art technology.
Our advanced treatment concept—refined over many years—is, unfortunately, not included in statutory insurance coverage even after the Federal Joint Committee’s decision. Whether your insurer contributes to treatment in our private clinic must be clarified individually with your insurance provider. Privately insured patients are more often fortunate enough to receive a considerable contribution towards surgical lipedema treatment through the German civil-servant benefit scheme (Beihilfe).
To give as many patients as possible access to surgical treatment of lipedema, we offer a fair cost structure. If the operation is not covered by your insurer, it is a self-pay service – a considerable financial hurdle for many patients. If required, the usual medical finance providers such as MedKred can also be used. Anesthesia costs are included in our prices. We will give you a concrete cost estimate after the initial consultation – depending on the number and extent of the procedures.
We regularly treat patients from the Netherlands and other neighbouring countries. The German insurance rules do not apply to you; treatment with us is a self-pay service with a transparent cost estimate in advance. Consultations are held in German or English.
