Liposuction

Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction – also known as fat removal – is a surgical procedure in which fat cells are selectively suctioned from problem areas. To loosen the fat cells within their structure, a solution is injected that serves both local anesthesia and facilitates tissue-friendly fat extraction. The method is applied to stubborn fat deposits throughout the body. Commonly treated areas include “saddlebags,” abdominal apron, or double chin.

When is liposuction used and what can I expect?

In many cases, certain fat deposits are metabolically resistant, and even the best diet cannot eliminate them. Liposuction can then be an effective solution. It is also successfully used to treat pathological fat-distribution disorders such as lipedema, where diseased fat cells are selectively removed. Frequently, liposuction is performed as part of another operation, for example to refine “border zones” in body-tightening procedures and achieve optimal results.
Depending on the indication, the extracted fat can also be transferred to other parts of the body—for example, the breasts.

Can I lose weight through liposuction?

It is important to know that liposuction does not treat obesity or its related conditions. The best results come from combining a healthy diet with targeted removal of fat deposits.
If liposuction of the legs or arms results in skin sagging, the procedure can be combined with a skin-tightening operation.

What are the alternatives to liposuction?

Cryolipolysis, a non-surgical method that destroys fat cells through controlled cooling, is one alternative. Another option is the fat-dissolving injection, which uses bile acids to break down fat cells that are then removed by an inflammatory process.
In my opinion, both methods are inferior to liposuction, as liposuction allows for tissue tightening through specialized techniques and precise definition of body areas.

Is liposuction dangerous?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure and, like any operation, carries general risks. Specific but rare complications include fat embolism or the formation of dimples, grooves, or asymmetries.
In our clinic, we use very fine suction cannulas depending on the indication to achieve the best results. Liposuction must be carefully planned and performed to minimize risks and ensure patient safety.

How does liposuction work at our clinic, and which technique do we use?

After an initial consultation—including counseling, informed consent, and examination—we plan the surgery together. Our goal is to understand your wishes and expectations before surgery, mark the suction zones precisely, and document them. On the day of surgery, performed in our own operating rooms, you will be scheduled to avoid long waiting times. I will again review everything with you and redo the markings. Depending on whether you are under general or local anesthesia, our surgical and anesthesia teams will take care of you. After surgery, you can either be monitored on an outpatient basis or stay overnight—this is decided in advance based on your medical profile and the volume of fat removed. We perform **water-jet-assisted liposuction (WAL)**, one of the most modern and gentle methods available. It is particularly tissue-preserving and yields even, natural-looking results.

Advantages / disadvantages / risks of liposuction – what are the alternatives?

The key advantage is the precise removal of fat from problem areas. Unlike injections, liposuction allows for exact contouring. When performed by a qualified specialist, the risks are very low. Possible side effects include bruising or discharge of tumescent fluid from small incisions within the first two days.

What should be considered after liposuction?

Wearing **compression garments for about six weeks** is usually necessary to promote an optimal result. Small incisions heal within roughly 14 days, and dissolvable sutures mean that no stitch removal is required. Sports can typically be resumed after **two weeks**, depending on recovery. Your personalized aftercare plan will be discussed in detail before every procedure.
