What is a hybrid breast augmentation?
Hybrid breast augmentation, in technical terms hybrid augmentation, means breast augmentation with an implant and autologous fat – that is, the combination of two surgical methods. The aim is to increase the skin and soft tissue cover over the implant through autologous fat transfer so that the implant does not show through. The method is suitable above all for very slim patients with little glandular breast tissue. We harvest the autologous fat from problem zones – the contour there becomes slimmer.
Where else is hybrid breast augmentation used?
With breast malformations such as the tuberous or tubular breast, autologous fat transfer is used more frequently in order to harmonise the result.
How does a hybrid breast augmentation work at our practice clinic?
As early as the preparatory consultation with advice, detailed information about risks and an examination, we plan the operation together. Please feel free to bring a loose bra in the size you want: with so-called test implants you can picture the result better, and we determine the shape that is right for you together. Our aim is to respond to your wishes as well as possible before the procedure and to mark and document the course of the incision and the suction areas.
On the day of the operation, which we carry out in our own rooms in Oldenburg, you are scheduled in such a way that long waiting times are avoided. I will then go through what we discussed with you once more and repeat the markings. Our nursing and anaesthesia team will look after you. After the procedure we accommodate you for one night in one of our patient beds; a nurse looks after you throughout the night and I myself am close by. After the final ward round the following day you can usually leave the clinic.
Advantages, disadvantages and risks
With hybrid breast augmentation the same advantages and disadvantages apply as with breast augmentation with an implant, including a later implant exchange. Where the indication is right, the method is outstandingly suited to achieving very beautiful, natural-looking results: the implant shows through less because more of your own body tissue lies above it. In addition there are the issues of autologous fat transfer – a limited amount per session, the dependence of the fat on your weight and the possibility of oil cysts.
What should be considered after a hybrid breast augmentation?
- A compression bra and a specially supporting breast band should be worn for up to 6 weeks after the procedure.
- No stitches need to be removed when resorbable suture material is used.
- You are usually able to face other people and to work again after 3 to 7 days.
- Sport may be started again carefully after 6 weeks; showering is possible from the 2nd day.
- Check-up appointments take place after 2 and 6 weeks.
