What is breast augmentation with implants and what can you expect?

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular and frequently requested cosmetic surgeries in Germany.
Over the last four decades, silicone implants have proven to be a safe and effective method.

Before surgery, it is important to clearly define your individual goals:
Do you want noticeably larger or more defined breasts?
Would you prefer a natural look or a rounder shape?
Should the projection be moderate or strong?

What can I expect from breast augmentation with implants?

Depending on your chest shape and anatomy, the right implant is selected according to your wishes.
For athletic women or those who desire larger implants, B-Lite implants by Polytech offer up to 30% less weight thanks to microscopic air bubbles in the cohesive gel.
We exclusively use German premium implants and favor the inframammary (under-breast) incision, which allows safe access and minimal scarring.

Each breast surgery is planned individually regarding implant placement — either above or below the muscle.
We also offer hybrid augmentation, combining autologous fat transfer with implants for natural results.

How long do implants last?

Modern implants rarely show material fatigue.
The main reason for replacement is capsular contracture, a natural tightening of tissue around the implant.

When should an implant be replaced?

In Germany, the average implant lifespan is around 12 years.
If capsular contracture causes discomfort, replacement is recommended.

How many milliliters for one cup size increase?

An increase of one cup size requires approximately 180 ml of implant volume.

Are there alternatives to implants?

Breast enlargement can also be achieved through autologous fat transfer, which adds about ½ to one cup size per session.
During a lift, we often use auto-augmentation (redistribution of your own glandular tissue) to avoid foreign materials.

How is breast augmentation performed in our clinic?

Before the operation, you will receive detailed consultation, examination, and planning. You may bring a **loose-fitting bra** of your desired size to test different implants. We use **trial implants** to help visualize the outcome and jointly select the ideal shape and volume. On the day of surgery, we ensure minimal waiting times. I personally re-discuss all plans and mark the incision sites. Our surgical and anesthesia team will care for you throughout the procedure. After surgery, you may stay **overnight in one of our recovery rooms**. A nurse will monitor you all night, and I remain personally available. After the follow-up exam the next day, you can usually go home.

Advantages / disadvantages / risks – are there alternatives?

Breast augmentation allows you to achieve your desired size in a single step. The procedure is **safe, quick, and low-risk**. However, **implant exchange after 10–15 years** may be necessary due to tissue changes. As an alternative, we also offer **fat transfer** or **hybrid augmentation**.

What should I consider after surgery?

A **compression bra** and **support strap** should be worn for about **6 weeks** for optimal results. With dissolvable sutures, **no stitch removal** is required. You are usually **socially active again after 3–7 days**. **Sports** can be resumed after **6 weeks**, and **showering** is possible from **day 2** post-surgery.
