What is a brow lift and which variants are there?
When the brows sink over the course of life, those affected often feel tired and may be restricted in their field of vision. Slackening of the brows often occurs together with slackening of the upper eyelids – which is why at our practice clinic in Oldenburg we always consider the two together.
Without surgery: botulinum and thread lift
First there are two non-invasive techniques for raising the outer brows: the injection of botulinum and the thread lift. These two mini procedures work for about 6 months and therefore do not achieve a lasting effect. They do, however, allow you to get used to a higher brow – anyone who is unsure can try out whether they like the expression.
With surgery: three techniques
If excess soft tissue and slackening of the brow are too pronounced, only surgical treatment will help. At our practice clinic we use three techniques:
- Via the eyelid lift: during an eyelid lift we raise the brow through the same access with a suture.
- Direct raising: skin is removed immediately at the upper hairline of the brow. The incision is placed so that the hair roots of the brow are not injured; the wound usually heals inconspicuously.
- Indirect brow lift: through an incision at the hairline the skin is tunnelled as far as the outer brow and raised with a suture.
All methods have their place and require the right application for the findings in question. Which one suits you depends on the height of the brow, the nature of the forehead and on whether the upper eyelids are treated at the same time.
