Breast Reduction – The Path to a Balanced and Harmonious Breast Shape

Many women consider large breasts a symbol of beauty, yet they can cause painful strain such as back and neck pain, headaches, postural problems, and tension, often accompanied by emotional distress.
In such cases, a breast reduction may be considered, provided that growth is complete and the breast fully developed.

By removing excess skin and glandular tissue and reshaping the remaining tissue, a smaller, lighter, and firmer breast can be achieved.
Often, a breast lift and areola reduction are performed simultaneously for optimal aesthetic results.

Consultation with Your Specialist

A detailed consultation about the procedure and potential complications is essential for a successful operation.
Take your time to clarify all questions, and feel free to bring a companion.
Preoperative documentation and photo records help visualize the progress and result.

Before the Operation

It is advisable to perform a mammogram or ultrasound before surgery to rule out breast cancer.
Avoid painkillers containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., Aspirin), hormonal medications, alcohol, and nicotine before the procedure.
Inform your doctor of any allergies or medications you take regularly.
If you bruise easily or bleed for extended periods, a coagulation disorder must be ruled out.

The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia, and you will typically stay overnight under medical observation in our clinic.

The Operation

The incision pattern depends on your anatomy and expectations.
The nipple and areola are repositioned and often reduced in size.
Common incision types include:

  • O-shaped (periareolar) incision
  • I-shaped (vertical) incision
  • T-shaped (anchor) incision

Our clinic uses the superior-medial pedicle technique to maintain blood supply and sensitivity, ensuring long-term lift.
The glandular tissue is reshaped into an internal bra, providing inner support and preventing drooping.

After the Operation

Pain medication will be provided for the first few days.
Afterward, a compression bra replaces the initial bandage and must be worn day and night for several weeks.
Dissolvable stitches usually do not require removal.
Avoid UV exposure on scars for at least six months.
Most patients can return to work within 2–4 weeks.

Sleep on your back for optimal healing, and handle your breasts gently for the first two months.
The final results can be assessed after 12 months, and scars will gradually fade over time.

Possible Complications

As with any surgery, risks such as bruising, bleeding, infection, or temporary numbness may occur.
In rare cases, tissue healing problems or asymmetries may require correction.
Choosing an experienced plastic surgeon significantly minimizes these risks.
